# Quickstart

> Go from sign-up to a live AI-answered phone number in about 10 minutes.

By the end of this guide you'll have a phone number that answers every call with your own AI agent — and you'll have heard it yourself.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create your account">
    Go to [vocal.solutions](https://vocal.solutions) and click **Start free**. Sign up with Google or email, then name your workspace — usually just your business name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a plan">
    Every plan starts with a **14-day free trial** that includes 50 connected AI calls — enough to put Vocal on a real line and see how it handles your callers. You add a card up front but aren't charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel anytime before then.

    Not sure which plan? Start with **Starter** — you can change plans later without losing anything. See [Plans & billing](/billing/plans) for the full breakdown.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create your first agent">
    The setup wizard asks you to describe your business — what you do, your hours, how you want callers treated. Vocal drafts your agent's personality and instructions from that description. Pick a voice you like and you're done.

    You can refine everything later — see [Shaping your agent's behavior](/agent/behavior).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get a phone number">
    Open **Settings → Numbers** and add a number — search by area code to get a local one. Every member on a paid plan includes one number, so your first one is covered.

    The number works immediately: calls to it are answered by your agent.

    <Tip>
      Already have a business number you love? You don't have to give it up — [port it to Vocal](/numbers/porting), or simply forward it to your new Vocal number while you decide.
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test your agent">
    Before going live, talk to your agent yourself. Open your agent and start a **test call** — it runs right in your browser, no phone needed, and test calls are free (they don't use your included calls).

    Try the questions your real callers ask. If an answer isn't right, adjust the agent's instructions or [add knowledge](/agent/knowledge) and test again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish and go live">
    Editing an agent never changes what live callers hear — changes take effect only when you click **Publish**. When your test calls sound right, publish, then call your Vocal number from your own phone.

    That call — hearing your own business answered instantly, on the first ring — is the moment Vocal clicks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Watch it work">
    Every call lands in your **Inbox** with a recording, a transcript, an AI-written summary, and the details your agent captured (name, number, reason for calling). You can also watch calls as they happen in **Live**.
  </Step>
