# Members and roles

> Invite teammates, choose their role, give each one a number, and remove people who leave.

Everyone in your workspace is a member, and each member has one of three roles. The descriptions below are the ones the app shows when you pick a role.

| Role | What it covers |
| - | - |
| **Owner** | Full access, including billing, plan changes, and workspace settings. Every workspace has exactly one. |
| **Admin** | Runs the phone system: numbers, integrations, team, and live calls. No billing or plan access. |
| **Member** | Makes and answers calls, texts, and works contacts and CRM leads. Sees their own stats and personal settings, but not workspace settings. |

A Member works the numbers they're on and sees the calls and texts on those numbers. Owners and Admins can look at any number's inbox. The Owner is whoever created the workspace, and that role can't be handed to someone else from Settings.

Being a manager isn't a role. A manager oversees a group of people and their numbers, so a recruiting lead can review their team's calls without being an Admin. See [Groups](https://support.vocal.solutions/team/groups.md).

## Invite people

Owners and Admins can invite from **Settings → Members**.

**1. Open the invite dialog**

Click **Invite members**, or press Cmd+I (Ctrl+I on Windows).

**2. Add emails and roles**

Enter each email address and pick its **Workspace role**, either **Member** or **Admin**. If you've set up groups, you can also choose which group they join.

**3. Send**

Click **Send invites**. Vocal shows what the new seats will add to your bill; click **Add members** to send the emails.

Each person gets an email with a link and joins when they accept. Until then they show under **Pending invites** (use the filter next to the search box), where the row menu has **Resend invite** and **Revoke invite**. **Copy invite link** is handy when the email lands in spam.

## Give each teammate a number

On the Starter, Growth, and Scale plans, every seat includes one number of its own. A new teammate picks theirs after accepting the invite, choosing a local number by area code. If someone skipped that step, you'll find them in **Settings → Numbers** under **Teammates without a number**; click **Assign a number** to pick one for them. You can do the same from their details in **Settings → Members** with **Assign a number to** followed by their name.

To put someone on a number that already exists, like a shared recruiting line, open their details, find **Phone numbers**, and click **Add**. For more on numbers, see [Get a number](https://support.vocal.solutions/numbers/get-a-number.md).

## Change a role

Click a person in **Settings → Members** to open their details, then click **Admin** or **Member** under **Role**. You can't change the Owner's role or your own.

A Member's details also have an **Access** section. Turn off **Can manage contacts** to stop them from bulk importing and deleting contacts.

## Remove someone

Open their details and click **Remove from workspace** under **Danger zone**. They lose access right away and their seat comes off your bill. Vocal takes them off every number they were on. A number assigned to them stays in your workspace but is cleared: everyone who shared it comes off, and it leaves any group. Add people back or assign it to their replacement. Moving a departing employee's contacts and numbers to a new hire? A group handoff does that and removes the old seat when it finishes; see [Groups](https://support.vocal.solutions/team/groups.md).

## Billing

Plans are billed per member. During your trial, new members don't cost anything until the trial ends; after that, each accepted invite adds a seat to your subscription, prorated to your billing cycle. See [Plans & billing](https://support.vocal.solutions/billing/plans.md).
